The Swanton Local School District is examining the possibility of changing our school start times to later in the morning. Currently Swanton starts earlier than all other schools in Fulton County and we are one of the few schools in the wider area that starts high school before 8:00AM. Lack of sleep for teens can have serious repercussions for overall physical and mental health. It is recommended that teenagers get between 8.5 and 9.5 hours of sleep a night. According the results of a survey of Swanton High School Students taken in the spring of 2019 only 2.2% of high school students are getting more than 8 hours of sleep. By changing the school start times we can take a simple step that can have a big impact on student health, wellness and academic achievement.
